Are you starting college this year? Are you wondering about further and higher education grants. Have you heard people talking about SUSI but you’re not sure what it is or where to start. Whichcollege.ie is here to help as we answer the question, What is SUSI?
What is SUSI?
SUSI stands for Student Universal Support Ireland. It is the national awarding authority for student grants in Ireland, providing financial assistance to eligible students who are pursuing third-level higher education in Ireland and certain courses abroad.
SUSI funding is in place to support students who may face financial barriers in accessing or continuing their education. The grants cover various costs associated with higher education, including tuition fees, maintenance, books, and other course-related expenses.
Eligibility for SUSI funding is determined based on several factors, including household income, family size, and the student’s own circumstances.
SUSI offers different types of grants, including maintenance grants for students from low-income families, fee grants for students who qualify for free tuition fees, and other supplemental grants for students with particular needs, such as students with disabilities.
The grant application process typically opens in the spring before the academic year begins, and students must submit their applications by the specified deadline.
To apply for SUSI funding, students must complete an online application form and provide relevant documentation, such as proof of income and identification.
The application is assessed by SUSI, and once the evaluation is complete, applicants receive a decision on their eligibility and the level of funding they may receive.
SUSI is open for new applications for academic year 2023/24. Apply now as a high number of applications are expected. For more information on the application process check out the how to apply section of the website.
For detailed and up-to-date information on SUSI funding, including eligibility criteria, application deadlines, and grant amounts, visit the official SUSI website (www.susi.ie) or contact their helpline for further assistance.
