Studying Creative Music Production in college
Creative Music and Production is offered by Institute of Art Design & Technology (AIDT) and is a four year full time course. It is a Level 8 course that will give you the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in the area as well as delving into your creative ideas and pushing your own boundaries.
Your first year of any undergraduate course will act as a foundation year. You will become familiar with the basic principles of creative music production. You will also become familiar with what is to come throughout your course and develop your skills and interest in different areas.
In your first year you will cover many different subjects including Music Production Fundamentals, Music Production and Practice, Acoustics of Music , Psychoacoustics of Music, Broadcast, Music Theory Fundamentals, Live Sound and Audio Fundamentals and Faculty Modules.
In your second year you will develop your knowledge on a more in-depth and complex level and cover modules in three areas. These areas are your common modules of Client-based Composition, Client-based Production, Musicology & Contextual Studies and a Faculty Elective. Your music production modules include Audio Electronics, Creative Audio Programming, Creative Studio Engineering and Audio Mixing. Your music practice modules include Creative Performance,Genre & Ensemble and Artist Development.
In third year you will delve into your creative practice as well as Industry Studies, Interactive Performance Systems and Collaborative Creative Engagement. You’ll also cover Audio Production for Games and Music Production for Games as well as Creative Genre and Ensemble.
To finish up a course of high intensity and a lot of information, your final year will see you cover modules from Creative Entrepreneurship, Music Industry, Professional Project Preparation and your Professional Project. Aside from this you will build your professional portfolio.

Different courses and different colleges will have different entry requirements. It’s always safest to check with the individual higher education institution which is available on their websites. As a general rule. Leaving Cert students should have a minimum of six subjects which should include: Two H5 (Higher Level) grades and Four O6 (Ordinary Level) grades or four H7 (Higher Level) grades. Subjects must include Mathematics, Irish or another language, and English.
