Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture and Design; ; Interior Architecture and Design is a creative and progressive discipline which explores new and exciting ways to create interior environments which inspire and enrich the lives of those who use them. It is a profession which touches upon a variety of associated disciplines including, architecture, furniture, lighting, product, graphic design, set design and fine art.; ; The Interior Architecture and Design programme focuses specifically on ideas relating to-; Creativity- innovation and critical thinking in the conception and development of designs which inspire and excite;; Place– exploring designs that connect metaphors, memories, rituals and associations with the rich and diverse cultural and material identity of our region;; Inhabitation – evolving designs which enrich the relationship between occupants and their interior environments by manipulating narratives, emotions, aesthetics and expectations.; ; Our Interior Architecture and Design programme has evolved as a distinct but somewhat complimentary course of study to our highly regarded BA (Hons) in Architectural Design RIBA Part 1 programme which has been running since 1998. The two programmes share an experienced staff team of designers, some resources and a common visionof design and architecture which prioritises the following issues-; The creative and environmentally responsible re-imagining of our existing built fabric;; Following a regional design ethos;; Providing an internationally recognised level of education, training and progression; possibilities aligned with best practice for these professions.; ; The Unique Learning Experience:; The learning experience is accessible, experiential, self−directed and supported in order to promote both independence and responsibility as part of a design team. Our graduates are confident, critical thinkers with a personal vision toward quality design, equipped to become active and enthusiastic participants within their local communities and with the potential to transfer these skills to a global context.Through our progressive approach to design education we aim to empower students with a core belief in the genius loci of a region and a desire to make a positive difference.; ; Our dynamic ‘Studio Culture’ is enriched by;; Exciting design projects including: residential, hospitality, cultural, exhibition, community design, conservation, restoration, furniture and lighting design; Multi-disciplinary, collaborative projects with students from other design disciplines such as Architectural Design, Fine Art, Creative Design, Theatre Design and Advanced Wood and Sustainable Technology.; High contact time with tutors; Annual Field trips to design capitals: Amsterdam,Barcelona, Berlin, London, Milan, Rome, Stockholm and Venice.; Student exhibitions and design competitions; ; Erasmus exchange programmes with partner European universities offering the opportunity to study abroad for up to a year; ; Key Skills:; During this course students develop a comprehensive range of high level skills appropriate to the dynamic and fast evolving role of the professional of interior designer-; Creative development of concepts and the expression/exploration of design ideas; Critical thinking and problem solving skills; Research skills; Communication skills involving the ability to draw and communicate utilising both conventional and digital techniques, 2D and 3D CAD, Photoshop and Illustrator; A critical understanding of the history and theory of interiors; Specialist knowledge of interior architecture and design practice involving, client, practice and project management; Interdisciplinary team working skills
