NUI Galway is to make available a limited number of places in the creative arts for students of exceptional achievements under its novel Creative Arts Scholarship Scheme – the first scheme of its kind among Irish universities.
The scheme is offering 40 CAO ‘Performance Points’ in recognition of the significant time and dedication applicants have shown in order to reach an exceptional level in their chosen field in the creative arts. However, this must also be supplemented by evidence of academic achievement and commitment.
Applicants for the scheme are required to meet certain criteria in a number of creative arts achievements. The 40 ‘Performance Points’ will be added to a minimum requirement of 350 CAO Points from a single sitting of the Leaving Certificate in 6 subjects.
There will be a total of 15 places available through the scheme. Candidates will be selected via a two-stage process involving an application (stage one) and an interview (stage two).
The Creative Arts Scheme will be available in areas in which NUI Galway has a recognised international standing:
Creative Writing
Digital Arts and Media
Drama, Theatre and Performance
Film
Non-fiction writing, including Journalism
Applicants should note that the closing date for applications is 16 May 2014.
Students looking for more information on the scheme will be given the chance to speak face to face with those in the know at NUI Galway’s Open Day on Saturday, April 5 (10am to 3pm). In the meantime, more info is available at the following link.
