Following on from last week’s release of the 2022 Leaving Cert results, many students may be asking themselves the question ‘I’ve Got My Leaving Cert Results. What Do I Do Now?’ This year’s CAO Round 1 offers will be available online from 2pm on Thursday, 8th September and will also be issued by e-mail and SMS text.
If you have applied for a third-level place through the CAO you can convert your Leaving Cert results into points with the CAO’s points calculator here.
When you receive your offer, you have up until 3pm on September 14th to accept it.
CAO Offer
If your offer is not your first choice of course or college, hopefully the offer of one of your other preferences is right for you. You may still get your first choice in Round Two even if you accept an offer that was lower in your list of choices in Round One.
Appeal
If you didn’t get your first choice, you do have the option to view or appeal aspects of your exams through the Candidate Self Service Portal. If you feel that your markings are incorrect or unfair, you can ask for them to be reviewed. The timelines this year for candidates to apply to view scripts and to lodge their appeal applications are very short. Application to view scripts opens 5pm, Tuesday, 6th September and closes 8pm Wednesday, 7th September. Application to appeal opens 9am Saturday, 10th September and closes 12pm Monday, 12th September. A Candidate Information Guide on Results and Appeals was issued to candidates and is available here
Repeat
For some, repeating the exam is an option. Maybe you didn’t perform at your best in your exams and would like the chance to do it again and give yourself a chance to get the points you feel you deserve and get your first choice course or college. It’s important to note that you don’t have to go back to your secondary school in order to repeat the Leaving Certificate. You can easily find schools and further education colleges around the country that offer Leaving Certificate repeat programmes.
