Griffith College have announced the winners of their STEAM and Creative bursaries for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Nine Schools Benefit From Bursary

Griffith College has announced that nine schools from across Ireland, including DEIS schools, have benefited from this year’s STEAM and Creative bursaries. Each school is allocated a monetary gift, while some schools received an additional experience day.

Experiential Opportunities

Griffith’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) bursary was designed to further expose students in DEIS schools to these subjects.  Having recently teamed up with the IT department in Griffith, some schools will be donated computers. The college also paired with Go Girls Go Karting initiative. The company, Formula Female, is spearheaded by Nicci Daly and promotes engineering, science and motorsport among young girls. Of this year’s winners, St. Dominic’s enjoyed a day at Kylemore Karting.

The 2019/2020 STEAM bursary recipients are:

  • St. Dominic’s College, Ballyfermot, Co Dublin: €2,500
  • Bishopstown Community School, Co. Cork: €2,500
  • St. Brogan’s College, Co. Cork: €2,500
  • Coláiste Éamann Ris, Co. Cork: €2000
  • St. Joseph’s Stanhope, Dublin 7: €500 & 4 PC’s for the school’s library
  • The Liberties Training & Education Centre, Dublin 8: New IT lab with 14 PCs from Griffith College

Annual Creative Bursary

The annual Creative Bursary in association with The Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland (IAPI) and Griffith’s Journalism & Media faculty announced its three successful applicants via Zoom presentations. The partnership with IAPI meant that these three schools would receive a monetary gift and experiential opportunity day at one of IAPI’s agency workplaces such as Zenith or Rothco. This provides the students with an insight into what courses such as Communications, Journalism or Graphic Design could offer them upon graduation.

The successful Creative Bursary schools for 2019/2020 include;

  • Assumption Secondary School, Dublin 12: €4000
  • St. Dominic’s College, Dublin 7: €3500
  • St. Michael’s Holy Faith, Dublin 11: €2500

Relationships Built During Lockdown

Schools Liaison Officer at Griffith College Sinéad O’Callaghan said, “We are delighted to be in contact with our Creative Bursary winning schools via Zoom during the current lockdown. Becoming a bursary recipient means this is the beginning of a symbiotic relationship between Griffith College and the second level schools as we support you with visits on campus for students to see a third level college and our Journalism and Media faculty are completely willing to assist on projects with students. Applications will open for the 2020/2021 bursaries in October 2020. We welcome entries from schools nationwide.”
