Is there a creative teen in your life? Then point them in this direction. The Dublin School of Creative Arts and DIT’s IDEA programme is an unforgettable summer experience. The Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship Academy is aimed at senior cycle secondary school students. Over the course of one week, these budding entrepreneurs must come up with business, product and social innovation concepts based around emerging technologies such as 3D printing.
Design Course Content
The week starts with studio-based creative workshops. This challenges the students to develop ideas, then equips them with the tools to solve real-world design problems.
Teams then progress to prototyping their idea, and undergo classes in 3D modelling, 3D printing and Laser Cutting etc.
Communications workshops introduce the students to film editing software. There, each team will create a short film on smartphones, explaining their product.
The business workshops focus on entrepreneurship. There teams develop an elevator pitch based on their product’s unique selling points.
The week culminates in an exhibition of prototypes, screenings and public elevator pitches to a panel which includes representatives from DIT Hothouse and Intel.
