Be vigilant at all times.
Trust your instincts.
Keep your belongings safe.
Be aware of your surroundings, local laws and customs.
When you are travelling to a new place make sure you have your accommodation for the night already booked. Check out hostels and budget hotels online for good deals and to make sure they are legitimate.
Don’t drink the water unless you know for certain that it is 100 percent safe to drink. You don’t want to end up in hospital with a nasty infection!
Bring a mosquito net – not only are these pretty but they are incredibly practical and save you getting bitten at night.
Avoid sunstroke by drinking plenty of fluids, keeping in the shade and wearing plenty of suncream and sunblock
Bring a padlock with you for your rucksack and lock up personal belongings. Wear a bumbag close to your skin with all your personal belongings and money to prevent it being stolen.
Avoid drinking too much alcohol as lowers your inhibitions and can make you oblivious to potentially dangerous situations.
Keep your eye on your drink at all times – people can and will spike it if they’re given the chance. 12 Say ‘no’ to drugs – it is simply not worth being banged up in a foreign prison for the rest of your life.
