Paula Mee is a current member and a past president of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute. In 2004 she set up her own consultancy.
Education
I am from Galway and graduated from University College Galway with a BSc in Biochemistry. After that, I completed my postgraduate qualifications in Dietetics and a Masters in Health Science in Leeds Metropolitan University.
In addition, I gained a Diploma in Allergy from Southampton University and I have completed the British Dietetic Association’s Sports Dietitian course. I am a current member and a past president of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute.
Career
After working in a hospital as a Dietitian, a Nutritionist in the National Dairy Council and as a Nutritional Manager in Superquinn, I set up my own Nutrition Consultancy in 2004. The Consultancy offers organisations and industry an extensive range of services in nutrition, product development, and marketing communications.
I have had varied experiences as a nutritionist. Because of that, I had the opportunity to be on the board of Consumer Foods in Bord Bia. I have also been the nutrition presenter of RTE Health Squad. This programme ran from 2002 to 2006. I also make regular appearances on TV and radio programmes. I advise on nutrition and health issues. Furthermore, I speak to a wide variety of public groups and health professionals participating in conferences and seminars around the country.
The personal characteristics I feel that can contribute to a successful career in nutrition are good communication skills, a deep interest and belief in nutritional sciences, and a passion to educate and support individuals and the wider public in their challenges of healthy eating and living.
